Africa is the only continent that offers you the Safari aspect. The name itself is drawn from the Swahili language that is popular in East and Central Africa. When you hear of safari, expect a lot of wildlife, warm beaches and the most romantic sunsets ever. So, you are heading to Africa. You need to dress for it. Worry not, for I have prepared some guidelines on how to dress fashionably for an African Safari.
Here goes:
Dress in jungle colors
Before you buy your attire, know the seasons in Africa. At times, the jungles will be green, and at times, they will be brown. Therefore, find clothes that blend in with the environment especially if you are visiting the wild. Camouflaging enables you to get very close to the animals and you also develop the feel of home.
Dress like an onion
I do not mean that you dress so badly that people cry: no! I only mean that you should be ready for changing seasons. They might not have snowy winters, but, the temperatures drop significantly between June and July. Therefore, be armed with light as well as heavy clothing if you are staying in Africa for long.
Breathable Fabrics
Africa is a hot continent. That is why most people leave their countries in winter and head there to bask in the sweet sun. Therefore, choose clothes made of breathable fabric to ensure you have sufficient air flow through your body. You cannot afford to be uncomfortable in that heavenly continent!
Invest in Safari boots
If you will be visiting the wild, make sure you carry boots that will protect your feet from thorns, insects, stones and hot soil. You should expect very strong thorns and coarse vegetation that can rip off your skin and spoil your tour. The shoes should also be light so you can walk long distances.
Hats and Sunglasses
These should have been first on our list! All the same, you need to protect your eyes and hair from direct sunlight. If you are new to this place, your first day might see your face full of sunburn. Second, the glasses will help you to view the beauty of Africa by reducing the sun’s glare.
Combat trousers and tops
Finally, invest in some good combat trousers and tops as they come in handy for carrying equipment. You need places to store your camera, its batteries, your phone, wallet, water bottle, credit cards, snacks and so on. Such clothes can reduce the weight on your backpack.
Lest I forget, carry your camera! This might be the only opportunity you get where a camera applies as a fashion accessory!
