Three Steps to Tweaking Your Style and Building Your Brand as an Influencer

Embracing a lifestyle that encourages constant travel and ditching the traditional nine-to-five grind is all-the-rage thanks to digital nomad lifestyle and influencer marketing.

However, making it happen is easier said than done.

That being said, lifestyle entrepreneurs such as Tai Lopez and growth hackers like Vincent Dignan are turning out more and more nomads who use their sense of style and love for travel to create businesses of their own.

Want to travel the world as a digital nomad and pave your own way?

Want to make money selling your personal style and brand?

Then go for it.

After all, it’s easier than ever to start your own brand, isn’t it? Building a blog is relatively straightforward, as is finding SEO tools to help you outrank your competitors.

That being said, standing out is the one element that sets the up-and-comers apart from the biggest names in the industry.

If you’re looking to make a splash in the influencer space and leverage a lifestyle that encourages you to be unconventional, you need to first understand the keys to making yourself irresistible and building your personal brand.

Be Like a Unicorn

The idea of being a unicorn may sound a bit silly, but hear me out.

In short, you need to be buzz-worthy. The term “unicorn” in the marketing world doesn’t refer to a mythical creature, but rather a personality that’s one-of-a-kind. Standing out in a sea of competitors requires you to conduct yourself in such a way that you’re both compelling and difficult to understand at the same time.

Sounds like a contradiction, doesn’t it? Here’s how the biggest influencers make it happen:

  • They’re loud: whether sharing controversial or unconventional opinions, you need to shout your opinions louder than others in your space without being obnoxious
  • They’re mysterious: you need to keep people guessing, either through a distinct style or dress or explosive personality (Vincent Dignan often wears ridiculous, mismatching outfits during his growth-hacking talks)
  • They’re marvelous: you need to be worth looking at and envied in the process, much like infamous YouTuber Casey Neistat who uses exotic locations and ridiculous settings to captivate his millions of subscribers

Don’t Bother Being Shy

Not only do you need thick skin to stand out as an influencer, but you also need to throw out the notion of shyness.

Through platforms such as Facebook Live and Instagram, you need to put yourself out in the open as much as possible (think: frequent selfies and travel pictures to boast your lifestyle). In short, your social posts should make you look larger than life.

In addition, you need to take the time to get real with your audience. Whether through talking about your lowest points or personal struggles, having a solid “podium speech” that shares your vulnerability whilst also putting on a pedestal will help you sell your personality.

Frequent posting and sharing personal anecdotes not only aids with content creation, but also allows you to dominate just about any social channel.

Be a Leader, Not a Follower

Finally, marching to the beat of your own drum means that you strive to help others. Beyond staying positive, you should take every opportunity to provide your own advice and insight to others via social media. This is often the missing piece for digital nomads and those trying to build a personal brand.

The key here is finding a balance between being buzz-worthy whilst also being positive. If you can tick  the aforementioned boxes without being labeled as negative or a “hater,” you’re golden.

The idea of traveling the world and building your brand as a digital nomad may seem like a pipe-dream. However, by setting yourself apart from others in your space and putting yourself out there with style, you can make it happen.

This contradiction in itself is not what you would expect from a blog partly named “vogue”–but we think of ourselves as the new mainstream instead. Started years ago, this blog has rebranded itself countless times to what you see today. Let the blogging journey continue :)
