We understand you. You love the races, and this year you are going to attend, no doubts ifs ands or buts about it.
Maybe this is the first time you are attending, or maybe you are a seasoned veteran of these events, and this is all old hat for you. But either way, you find yourself stuck for ideas on what to wear to the races.
Admittedly, this can be more than a little bit intimidating. You know that you have to dress to impress. A lot of important people in society will be there, businessmen, captains of industry, of course along with the big horse racing bookmakers. You want to blend in, but at the same time you also want to stand out.
Since so many people reading this are going to be going as couples, we will discuss both women’s and men’s fashion in this article.
Women:
This is not the time to dress down. You want to flaunt it and be flashy. This is the time you want to flaunt that jewelry, the elegant watch, and whatever accessory you have in your arsenal that lets the world know who you are! It’s even better if you have an accessory that somehow ties in thematically with the event. Properly done, this is the epitome of class and elegance. If the races are worth taking the time and money to go there and experience them, they are definitely also worth shopping for.
Outfit ideas are legion, but you can go here to get a springboard for some creative ideas of your own. Just remember, colorful is the key concept here. It’s not a funeral. And this is not the place where that little black dress is going to work out.
Men:
Women are going to for glamor at the races, but you should take a slightly different tack. You should go more for style and a solid presence so you can complement your SO at the event.
This doesn’t mean, however, that you should be boring and wear all grey and black suits all the time either. This is the races; we are not at a normal working day at the office.
One easy way to go about it is to pick a shirt in a timeless color that suits you, and then pick a jacket and pants that compliment it, the jacket being in the boldest color. This is surprisingly easy to do and represents that little bit of extra effort that will set you apart from the rest of the crowd without going overboard. Also, don’t forget your belt. It will come handy when you go to the betting windows, to the paddock, etc.
Just make sure you are well aware of the dress codes for whichever particular space or enclosure you are going to be in during the various parts of the event. One space may have a stricter dress code than another, and we men are famous for trying to dress down too much. Don’t get caught out; verify beforehand. Sure, everybody wants to look sharp but it should always be remembered that most of us visit the racetrack to make a few bets and spend some quality time with our friends, not to make a fashion statement.
